Posted @withregram • @projones22 Join @createforward founder @piperanderson and I this Thursday evening for a community circle for BIPOC (Black Indigenous People of Color) focused on healing through storytelling.
This is a new installment in an existing of community circles facilitated by Create Forward. The last iteration focused on COVID, and this one will explore how we manage ourselves as BIPOC living through multiple pandemics (the virus, white supremacist patriarchy, etc). This event is free. From the Create Forward description:
Amidst the many needs we are all trying to meet, mental and emotional well-being can sometimes get pushed to the back burner. We believe that supporting each other’s mental and emotional well-being is an integral part of community care, and that story circles can be a powerful way of doing this. So we are facilitating a series of community care circles to bring together groups to reflect on what is happening, share resources, and strategies for caring for ourselves and each other.

Posted @withregram • @simonedevi As our country experiences an uprising for Black lives, my comrade @shivlandia and I have been deeply reflective about the role of @jahajee_sisters, the organization we co-direct together, in the current political moment.
We support survivors of gender-based violence, including some whose lives are in danger. We also want to abolish the police. As intersectional feminists, we embrace complexity.
We believe in survivor agency and that survivors are the experts in their own lives— they know what they need. The last thing we ever want to do is take away choice from someone who has been traumatically stripped of their autonomy.
At the same time, we are abolitionists and we know something new must be built. It is not about reforming an oppressive, racist structure. It is about imagining and co-creating with other gender justice leaders across the country an alternative that will support survivors to find accountability.
We will move guided by our values, in the interest of our community’s safety, and with the knowledge that any system that harms Black people is a toxic one for us all.

Commune with the Earth whenever you can.
I remembered during this trip that I am my best and clearest self in nature. In warmth. In mountains by rivers with exposed rock and stone where I can feel the wind on my face. Or by oceans.
This was a healing trip. I missed Ithaca. Almost forgot how beautiful it is here. And that is is close enough that it need not take 16 years for me to come back.
